Car Buying Tips

Many car buyers secure a bargain and save many thousands of dollars when buying a slightly used car rather than brand new.

Smart Car Buyers always know that when buying a new car you can sometimes lose up to 30% of the cars value the moment you drive off the dealers lot. So it makes sense to buy a late model used car and let someone else wear the initial depreciation cost.

But how do you know that the car you are buying is of a high quality? Well that's where the car buyers guide comes in.

Tip 1: Always insist on seeing the cars RACQ report or buy from an RACQ Approved Dealer. Car Buyers Guide can give you a list of RACQ Approved Dealers in Brisbane and Queensland.

Tip 2: Get your finance organised before you shop. Many dealers insist on a "kickback" from their finance copany so its imperitive that you organise finance before you sign the dotted line. Otherwise you have no chance of securing the best rate.

Deal with a reputable, FBAA Accredited finance broker like Approved Car Loans, Credit One Finance or Credit Choice Finance and then shop with confidence.

Tip 3: Insist on a REVS certificate before you hand over your cash. A REVS certificate can identify issues such as encumbrances or previous flood / major accident damage.

Tip 4: Be wary of so called "private sellers". Many private sales "bargains" are actually back yard car dealers dressed up as private sellers. Many ex used car salesman operate from home selling cars to the unsuspecting public. This way they are not required to provide a warranty.

Tip 5: Buy from a reputable dealer. We've heard all the jokes about "used car dealers" but did you know these days dealers are heavily licenced by the state government, must provide a REVS certificate by law and also must display the drive away sticker price? Queensland dealers must also provide a comprehensive warranty - which means you won't be stuck with huge repair bills.

Tip 6: The RACQ and Car Buyers Guide can provide a list of reputable dealers in Brisbane and surrounding areas.

Tip 7: Be wary of Car Auctions. You might snap up what seems like a bargain at first but the cost of this "bargain" could be with you for years. Most Car Auctions provide NO WARRANTY. So the second you drive off the auction lot and if there is a major malfunction you could be up for many thousands of dollars of repair bills and the added inconvenience of not having a car.

All licensed dealers in QLD must provide a 100% warranty for either 1 month or three months depending on the age of the car. This leaves the risk with the dealer and lets you enjoy your new purchase.

Tip 8: ALWAYS ALWAYS insist on a warranty. There is often a good reason that you'll never see dealers at a public car auction. Sure you may snap up a bargain but you may also buy accident damaged cars that had a quick facelift. Buying from an RACQ Approved Dealer and insisting on a Warranty means that you have the best chance of getting a great deal.

Tip 9: Quality remains after price is forgotten.
